everything you needed to know about gyn cancers

Cervical Cancer

Virtually all cases of cervical cancer are caused by HPV. Other risk factors associated with this cancer include having multiple sexual partners and smoking tobacco.

Ovarian Cancer

The risk of developing ovarian cancer gets higher with age. Most ovarian cancers develop after menopause. Most women who get ovarian cancer are not at high risk, but several factors may increase a woman’s risk such as never having children and hereditary genetic mutations.

Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer

Although certain factors can increase a woman’s risk for endometrial cancer, they don’t always cause the disease. Many women with risk factors never develop endometrial cancer. The most relevant risk factors are obesity and exposure to estrogen treatments.

Vaginal and Vulvar cancers

Several factors may increase the chance that you will get vaginal or vulvar cancer. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the main risk factor for vaginal and vulvar cancers. About 65% of vaginal cancers and about 50% of vulvar cancers are linked to HPV.
