2023
The 5th World Gynecologic Oncology Day
In 2023, the World GO Day theme was prevention, testing and the right treatment.
Every year, more than 1 million women are diagnosed with gynecologic cancers. Despite that, these cancers are still not very well known. Women themselves may be unaware about the signs and possibilities of prevention, early detection and treatment. Also, cervical cancer is one of the rare preventable cancers that can be eliminated given early prevention.
The main focus of the campaign was:
- Primary prevention of cervical cancer: HPV vaccination
- Secondary prevention of ervical cancer: testing with focus on HPV DNA tests, self-sampling, Pap test (also referred to as Pap smear or cervical cytology) and explanation of the differences between the tests
- Prevention of genetically induced cancers (early detection of mutations)
