Gynecological cancers are often easily detectable by patients themselves if they know what to look for. As we want to lifte the burgen of stigma in gyn cancers, here are some tips what to look for and not to ignore:
1. Pain is not a normal part of life!
Frequent abdominal or back pain is not a normal symptom of your period. It can be a first sign of ovarian cancer. Just as pain and itching in vulvar area can be a sign of vulvar cancer.
2. Vaginal bleeding that lasts more than 7 days and is so severe it prevents you from doing your everyday routine is not normal!
Bleeding outside your cycle, bleeding for more than 7 days or bleeding after menopause can be a first sign of cervical, ovarian, endometrial or vaginal cancer.
3. More frequent or urgent need to urinate can be a urinary infection … but can also be a first sign of ovarian or vaginal cancer.
